Prostate Cancer
"Together with the brightest minds in research, we aim to achieve significant breakthroughs in the hope of beating prostate cancer. Our disruptive funding approach identifies revolutionary ways to accelerate health outcomes by creating strong, global collaborative teams." Dr. Colleen Nelson, Global Scientific Chair.
Men's Health
"One Mo can help change the face of men’s health through the powerful conversations created globally during Movember. Men have the chance to confidently discuss men’s health with people around them, resulting in men taking action early, helping change and save lives." Paul Villanti, Executive Director, Programs
Mental health and suicide prevention
“The number of men taking their own lives around the world is one of the biggest challenges of our time. Movember is working to ensure all men and boys look after their mental health and are comfortable to seek help when they’re struggling.”
Brendan Maher, Global Director, Mental Health and Suicide Prevention.
Testicular Cancer
“Despite being the 2nd most common cancer in young men, testicular cancer is often a forgotten cancer due to early detection and treatment. Our projects look at underinvested areas such as improving access to healthcare services and treatment options for relapse” Paul Villanti, Executive Director, Programs.

About the project

Movember Ahead of the Game is a youth mental health programme. Harnessing the power of sport, the programme teaches young men aged 12-18 years, their parents and sports coaches to understand mental health, build mental fitness and strengthen resilience. Young men learn how to deal with challenges in both sport and life.

The programme was initially developed through a Movember funded research project in Australia in partnership with the University of Wollongong from 2014-2017. Research on the program showed improvements in the mental wellbeing of young men as well as significant changes in knowledge, attitudes and behavioural intentions that underpin the prevention and early intervention of mental ill-health.

Once the initial evidence-base for the programme was established, Movember developed a strategy to scale the programme beyond Australia.  The program is distributed through national sporting codes and national organisations, as well as local delivery partners across the United Kingdom.

Partners such as Rugby League Cares, Rugby League World Cup (2021), Everton in the Community, Leeds Rhinos Foundation, Fulham FC Foundation, Sheffield Eagles Foundation and Harlequins Foundation have been integral in delivering the programme across England and Wales to date.

In 2023, Movember funded a pilot of Movember Ahead of the Game in Scotland for the first time in partnership with Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH) and eight different delivery partners across Scotland. Following the success of the pilot, the programme will continue to be delivered to improve health outcomes for young men in Scotland.

Over 30,000 young sports players and their support networks have taken part to date in the United Kingdom.

This funding has and continues to be instrumental for delivering real-world impact for young men aged 12-18 years and their support networks across the globe. Movember's current strategy is to engage 250,000 participants across Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand and the United Kingdom by the end of 2027.
