We work closely with our global men's health partners to ensure collaboration, transparency and accountability for every project we fund. We monitor this through report cards which detail what we seek to achieve, key measures and the impact.
Prostate Cancer
"Together with the brightest minds in research, we aim to achieve significant breakthroughs in the hope of beating prostate cancer. Our disruptive funding approach identifies revolutionary ways to accelerate health outcomes by creating strong, global collaborative teams." Dr. Colleen Nelson, Global Scientific Chair.
Men's Health
"One Mo can help change the face of men’s health through the powerful conversations created globally during Movember. Men have the chance to confidently discuss men’s health with people around them, resulting in men taking action early, helping change and save lives." Paul Villanti, Executive Director, Programs
Mental health and suicide prevention
“The number of men taking their own lives around the world is one of the biggest challenges of our time. Movember is working to ensure all men and boys look after their mental health and are comfortable to seek help when they’re struggling.”
Brendan Maher, Global Director, Mental Health and Suicide Prevention.
Testicular Cancer
“Despite being the 2nd most common cancer in young men, testicular cancer is often a forgotten cancer due to early detection and treatment. Our projects look at underinvested areas such as improving access to healthcare services and treatment options for relapse” Paul Villanti, Executive Director, Programs.

Young men's health - Reimagining masculinities online research

What we seek to achieve

This project seeks to understand how young men are engaging with social media influencers and online content associated with promoting traditional masculine norms (i.e. the manosphere) and whether/how exposure to this content is influencing their mental health and notions of masculinity. Where harms (or risk of harm) are identified through the research, we will seek to co-design solutions with partners and young men themselves to tackle these challenges.

About the project

Over the last few years, the “manosphere” of online anti-women influencers and communities have become increasingly more organised in deploying sophisticated communication tactics to reach and mobilise young men and boys. These online communities and influencers use real-world problems men are facing, to promote rigid and traditional notions of masculinity as the solution.

Initiative Goal: Understand the impact and appeal of the “manosphere” to young men to bring together a coalition of philanthropic, academic, commercial and media partners united by the mission to loosen its grip on young men. Our first phase initial focus will be fourfold-

1. Establish if and how exposure to Manosphere content is harmful for young men through a cutting-edge study using Tik Tok data (build the evidence)

2. Understand young men’s experiences of this online world and how it impacts their own perceptions of their mental health and attitudes towards masculinity, through qualitative and quantitative lived experience research with young men (build the evidence)

3. Engage potential partners in a community of practice to share learnings, ultimately building towards designing a coalition of organisations prepared to commit resources to a shared agenda (convene)

4. Explore areas for intervention, including possible systemic interventions through media and advocacy (real world delivery and advocacy)
