The Distinguished
Gentleman’s Ride
21 May 2023
Since 2012, The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride has connected a global community of health-focused motorcyclists in over 1,000 cities, raising over AUD $50 million for men's health. Movember is proud to be the official charity partner of the ride. As our partnership enters its eighth year, we remain steadfast in our mission to bring riders together to celebrate social connections and raise awareness for men's mental health and prostate cancer.Rallying together in 2022 saw a global return to group riding, something that was sorely missed in previous years. Despite the challenges, folks around the globe found innovative ways to stay connected and encourage one another to take action on their health. In 2023, we are opening the throttle and riding that momentum. This is the year for social connections, and for The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride 2023 to bring riders together and continue its long-standing tradition of ride dapper for men’s health.
How it all started
The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride was founded in 2012 by Mark Hawwa in Sydney, Australia, as a way to use the dapper theme to combat the often-negative stereotype of men on motorcycles, while connecting niche motorcycle communities together.
That first ride brought together over 2,500 riders across 64 cities, with the success of the event encouraging Mark to consider how it could be used to support a worthy cause. The rest, as they say, is history
A match made in heaven
Movember has been the official charity partner of The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride since 2016. Both organisations share one simple common goal: to bring people together and raise awareness of men's health.
2023 marks our eighth year riding together. During that time, funds raised by The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride have led to life-changing research in prostate cancer and life-saving mental health and suicide prevention programs.
This includes programs supporting firefighters, paramedics, police officers and military veterans, through the DGR Veterans and First Responders Program, who are all disproportionately affected by poor mental health.
It also includes The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride Social Connections Challenge, which is testing new ideas from the DGR community with the goal of bringing motorcycle riders together to improve their wellbeing and, ultimately, help them build stronger and more meaningful connections.
We have achieved a whole lot together, but there’s still plenty more we can do! Registrations are now open for this year's event, where you can sign up with your classically-inspired motorcycle and dress dapper to raise funds and awareness for men’s health.
